Do you want to become an expert in delivering Net Zero Carbon buildings and supporting designers to deliver them? Due to continued growth across our Sustainability & Energy Team we are looking to recruit a Thermal Modelling Engineer to join our established Sustainability & Energy Team, who work across Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Birmingham and London.

Our extensive portfolio of clients and frameworks will see the successful Thermal Modelling Engineer working across all sectors and building types. Our dedicated Sustainability and Energy (S&E) discipline work with all our multi-disciplinary teams, therefore you will benefit from the skills and expertise across the Practice.  

Typical responsibilities will involve:

  • Preparing and running thermal modelling simulations on a wide range of building types
  • Contributing to the delivery in projects of:
    • Net zero and whole life carbon
    • Building performance and operational energy
    • Parametric and optimisation models
    • Energy Masterplanning
    • Compliance and Performance
  • Actively liaising with architects and engineers and members of the S&E team to develop sustainable buildings
  • Prepare technical reports and relevant aspects of tender specifications
  • Assist in the expansion of the building physics team
  • Helping to ensure projects are delivered on time
  • Contributing to our multi-disciplinary network of Sustainability Champions
  • Deputising for Senior Engineers as appropriate

About You

This opportunity would be perfect for someone who is dynamic, enthusiastic, responsible, and practical. With a passion to make sustainability an integral part of design, construction, and operation of buildings.

Key skills and experience:

  • 2+ years relevant consultancy experience
  • Relevant degree level qualification (MSc desirable)           
  • Strong expertise in the use of IES or other similar software packages
  • Ability to prepare thermal models and undertake heating and cooling loads calculations, daylight modelling, Part L calculations, natural ventilation simulations and overheating analysis.
  • Working knowledge of operational energy calculations using TM54
  • Parametric modelling, optimisation and coding (e.g. Rhino, Grasshopper, Dynamo, Python) would be beneficial
  • Strong data processing skills (Excel, Python, etc)
  • Knowledge of current legislation (e.g. new Part L) and industry best practice (UK-GBC, LETI, etc.)
  • Knowledge of BREEAM and Building Services design
  • Team player with strong communication skills both verbally and writing
  • Appreciate a varied and challenging workload
  • Looking to progress and develop within Pick Everard
