To continue success delivery of several large schemes across the defence and custodial sector we are looking to appoint a Design Manager to provide guidance and leadership on large schemes, assisting with the management and coordination of the entire design process.

This role will see you integrating with the design management team and become part of a wider inter-disciplinary practice. You will lead design meeting with clients, proactively managing the design process, liaising closely with the technical employees delivering the design production. Working in conjunction with the Senior Design Manager you will prepare schedules of services to determine clear scope delineation, roles and responsibilities and monitor throughout the life of the project.

Key Objectivities & Responsibilities

  • Organise, chair and assign actions from design reviews and establish schedules for deliverables
  • Ensure a cohesive design management process is adhered to throughout all stages of the project
  • Monitor compliance with project brief and report on progress against project scope
  • Manage the RFI/TQ processes
  • Scheduling of all design reviews at all gateways/control points.
  • Organise and manage technical reviews providing suitable challenge to the technical outputs
  • Develop consultant scopes and prepare contract documentation and administer appointments of subconsultants
  • Coordinate and monitor design delivery programmes (TIDP/MIDP) and administer updates
  • Lead and coordinate interface with Common Data Environment (primarily Viewpoint for Projects)
  • Contribute to raising of Early Warnings and Identifying Compensation Events
  • Monitor clash detection and work proactively towards clash free design information
  • Monitor consistency and clarity of design information and feed back to design disciplines
  • Lead change control process
This role will suit a solutions focused individual, who is looking to deliver a programme of works, influencing clients with a core focus on sustainable design. 

About You

This role will suit a Design Manager who has experience delivering a variety of projects across the built environment, with a clear understanding of the design process from inception to delivery.

Key skills we would like you to have:

  • Strong clarity and confidence in communication; writing, drawing, on screen and in person. Including client facing skills, combined with strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • A clear, systematic approach in solving complex technical and aesthetic issues, with the ability to communicate solutions in an effective, high-level manner
  • Good Commercial awareness
  • Proficiency in MS Project/Excel/Teams
  • Project and design programming skills
  • Experience in developing and implementing design management tools and procedures.
  • A strategic problem solver with an eye for detail.
  • Experience in coordinating and managing multiple stakeholders
  • Strong self-motivation, friendly, efficient and enthusiastic attitude
  • Experience working with integrated internal and blended teams
  • Previous experience delivering large scale projects
